I do not believe that you will get recurring quests in Iron Age as they were only added by Inno a few ages later in development. once you have reached a certain point, youll instead get the recurring quests and can cycle them essentially endlessly while you are parked in an era. Once you hit (I believe) HMA you get side quests, which is a set of recurring quests that cycle.Īs you advance in the tech tree, more story quests will unlock and you can complete them. They're designed to help guide you through doing things in the game.
These proceed through the ages sequentially, requiring you to build something, then something from later in the tech tree, then capture a province from the map, and a later province, then scout. What you have been seeing and aborting are "story quests". There is a difference between "story quests" and "side quests" also know as "recurring quests".
